Kulturpreis Deutsche Sprache (German Language Culture Award)

The Kulturpreis Deutsche Sprache has been awarded annually since the year 2000. 
The award aims to promote the creative development of the German language and is intended to strike a blow against the threat of linguistic impoverishment. It is awarded to individuals and institutions who advocate for these aims. Since its inception, the prize has been awarded to Ludmila Putina, Loriot, Frank Schirrmacher, Cornelia Funke and Udo Lindenberg.

21.10.2011: This past weekend, poet Nora-Eugenie Gomringer was awarded the prestigious 2011 Jacob Grimm Award in Kassel, Germany. She immediately proceeded to demonstrate her worthiness in a simultaneously enthralling and touching acceptance speech, as she read from her works and spoke about her life and her career, not forgetting to thank her fellow poets from the poetry slam scene and the artists she collaborates with on a wide variety of projects. Professor Dieter Schoenecker from the University of Siegen was presented with the Initiative Award for his efforts to make the works Immanuel Kant accessible to philosophy students whose native language is not German. It is his firm conviction that these texts can only be truly understood in the original language. The Deutschlandstiftung für Integration (German Foundation for Integration) was awarded the Institutional Award for its commitment to projects to teach the German language, particularly to children of immigrants.

23.10.2010: The top award goes to Udo Lindenberg for decades of rock music with German lyrics. Additional recipients are the Arbeitsstelle für deutschmährische Literatur (Working Group for German-Moravian Literature) at Palacký University Olomouc (Czech Republic) as well as the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Universität Greifswald. The awards will be presented on October 23.
